RHSA Program History
Buzz Karaoke: This has been put on at least since 2002.
Color Wars: A field day for all the halls. The halls are split up into teams and compete in several games to come out on top. Began in Spring 2010 and has been put on every spring since then.
Condom Casino: A night dedicated to promoting safe sex. This is done through a casino style night where instead of money winners would be rewarded with condoms. Has been put on every fall semester since at least 1993.
Hall Stars: This was the inter-hall program for VP Torian.
Halloween Hall Decorating Contest: In the spirit of Halloween, RHSA decided to facilitate a hall decorating contest. Each hall went out choosing a theme and decorating their main lounge creating a festive atmosphere for the building. The E-board judged each hall lounge on creativity, originality, resourcefulness and theme. This program gave residents in each hall the opportunity to work together while creating an atmosphere the whole hall could enjoy. It was put on
Ice Cream Social: The ice cream social is an annual tradition to kick off the school year. It gets residents to mingle over ice cream sundaes while being served by the RHSA E-board. The E-board wear RHSA shirts in order to promote RHSA. This has been done since at least Fall 2000.
Oktober Fest: E-board members dressed as pumpkins as the college community decorated themselves for an evening filled with festivities. Favorite Halloween tunes were blaring as the hay bales and pumpkins set the mood for a spooktacular evening. Contests proved to be entertaining for on lookers as they ranged from donut eating , to mummy wraps, in hopes of getting to the center of a licorice knot. Stations of pumpkin paintings were also set up for those to express their creative flare. Many took advantage of creating their own candy apples as they helped judge the costume contest. It was put on at least in Fall 2000.
RHSA Coffee House: Part of Buzz in previous years, it was separated and put on as a program. It consisted of a open mic where people performed for those who attended. Coffee was served to all who attended. It was put on in Fall 2010.
Say What Karaoke NP Style: The highly anticipated karaoke night was set to go with a decorated stage and an enthusiastic panel of guest judges. Modeled after MTV's karaoke show, hand picked judges from the administrative staff cracked down on some tough acts based on accuracy, style, and overall performance. The closet was filled for the final round with costumes and props purchased from the salvation army. After the program the clothes were donated to the Family of New Paltz shelter. As the last round came the tension peaked and the entertainment soared as the crowd became energized and the competition became fierce for the cash prizes. This has been put on since 2000 and eventually became buzz karaoke.
Shadow Program: The shadow program has been implemented to ensure the success of future e-boards and the whole of RHSA from year to year. Each member of the e-board will assist a person from the associate council who is interested in their position for a 2-4 week program that includes helping executive boards with their daily and weekly tasks. We hope that by seeing what goes on from week to week behind the scenes the future e-board will be prepared for the year to come. This was first put in place in 2000.
Spirit Weekend: This has been put on every fall semester since at least 1993.
Stars Conference: This has been put on since at least 2001.
The Buzz: RHSA sponsors monthly gathering monthly gatherings in the College Terrace where students meet to drink coffee, and snack on pastries as an alternative to the "party scene". During open mic students use their own artistic talents as a means of expression to keep the crowds entertained. Our famous karaoke nights allow students to kick back and sing along with their friends and favorite stars just for laughs.
